Guess what? Yes: _more_ Korg Wavestation Performances...
           ===========================================================

(19/11/96 ...and it's a _really_ dismal day)

This is my eighth bank of patches uploaded to the net - the first was
BENS_WS3.ZIP and so on up to BENSWS10.ZIP. All data remains the
copyright of me (Ben Hall) - see below.

BENSWS10.SYX is a raw sysex format file containing some more of my
Wavestation sounds to add to your collections. There are 22
performances in this library, and all should work on any WS (ie the
WS, EX, A/D and SR).

The SoundDiver format library version of this bank is called
BENSWS10.LIB (the "Load" option in the WS memory manager is the
quickest way to load this file), and the midifile format version is
BENSWS10.MID. The SYX file is raw sysex data and needs to be
transmitted via the MIDI OUT to the WS.

They are addressed to RAM1, and should be transmitted to a WS on Midi
channel 1, using appropriate software.

* PC Users *
------------
For PC users, Cakewalk will load these files, or you can try one of
the two shareware WS editors (found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk in the directory
pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/WS_Editors/
amongst other places: these are WS Edit 1.c by Stefano Voulaz
<voulaz@IT.net> and Wavestat 4.0 by Mark Alands <alands@atcon.com>).

In addition there are various sysex programs around, try WinSysex or
Dumpster for Windows that should do the job. Check the popular Harmony
Central web site: see http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Windows

* Mac Users *
-------------
Mac users can use Bulk Sysex 1.02 (it's around the net), or Galaxy and
Unisyn have SYX import drivers available if you use one of those
programs.

* Atari Users *
---------------
Atari users should use Dump-It! (contact me, or it's on
micros.hensa.ac.uk as well as other places) It's the only decent sysex
dumper that can handle bigg-ish dumps (ahem)

* Amiga Users *
---------------
I haven't a clue as to what sysex dumping software exists for the
Amiga. There is a utility with Bars'n'Pipes called Patchmeister that
does SYX file dumps (apparently). If you know of other similar
programs, drop me a line and let me know...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course most sequencers will read and transmit the midifile versions
of the bank, so these may be more convenient.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All of my other WS sounds (and other banks besides) can be found in
ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/
in Diver/, Midifiles/ and Syx/ directories, and also on the Trading
Post on the web in sysex format. There are also floating around other
sites here and there...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wavestation mailing list is back up again (yay!) at a new address:

                    wavestation@cloudfactory.org

To subscribe, send a mail to majordomo@cloudfactory.org with the body
text "subscribe wavestation", or "subscribe wavestation-digest"
(without the quotes). Come join the fun!

( ...and contribute to the WS Patch Archive... )
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough
people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any
nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do!

You are free to use these patches in any way you please, upload them
anywhere etc etc. All data is one hundred per cent original (apart
from one modified voice in one of the banks that is credited where it
appears). I virtually always start from initialised voices, and
program directly on the WS itself. Please keep this text file with the
bank. This bank is:
                      Copyright 1996 Ben Hall

If you use these or any of my other patches on any commercial
recordings, it'd be nice if you could drop me a line and tell me, or
better still, send me a free copy... :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

RAM-01 00 'Erm.. *'

Completely useless random noises. These things are more
        experiments than anything else.

RAM-01 01 'Mysteria *'

        Nice pad.

RAM-01 02 'FactOrFiction?*'

        Echoey synth sound.

RAM-01 03 'BianoDX Layer *'

A couple of layered electric pianos, with a touch of breath,
and a third at high velocities, split with a bass in the
        bottom octave-or-so.

RAM-01 04 'Cold Winter *'

Nice moving analog pad, with a slow phaser. Mod wheel affects
        filter cutoff.

RAM-01 05 'PitchSpitBrass*'

Analog brass sound with a ptich bent attack. Aftertouch and
        mod wheel do vibrato.

RAM-01 06 'Leadstation *'

Lead sound, somewhere around "Mini Lead" lines.

RAM-01 07 'Vifths *'

Detuned-fifths sound with a bent attack, and an octave
        downwards pitchshift with aftertouch.

RAM-01 08 'Tenor Sax *'

Nice playable mono legato tenor sax: aftertouch presses in
vibrato (I like using aftertouch for a more natural vibrato
because you can lean into it more physically). The mod wheel
controls the vibrato rate, with down being slow and up being
fast. With both depth and rate playable in this way you can do
        some nicely expressive solos.

RAM-01 09 'Hufman *'

        Breathy chiffy pad.

RAM-01 10 'Fusion Bass *'

A bass sound. I've only ever heard two or three decent basses
on the Wavestation - basses don't seem to be it's strong
point, which is strange as most synths seem to be able to do
some decent basses (including my old (cheap) CZ-101...)

RAM-01 11 'Polymodulator *'

More vocoder wavesequence-modulated pads (nice when synced to
midi and used in the background of a track). Because th
modulating wave sequence is polyphonic you can build up some
nice cross-rythmic pads by triggering different notes at
        different times.

RAM-01 12 'VS-DX-Evelpno *'

Nice electric-piano sound, with different timbres played
according to velocity. Mod wheel affects chorus rate.

RAM-01 13 'Vifths 2 *'

Similar to the earlier one but with slightly different
        effects.

RAM-01 14 'Pileggi *'

Echoey sequence, with an analog bass, and a bendy analog thing
        when you hold a note.

RAM-01 15 'Whistle Blower*'

        Chiffy bottle-blowing sound.

RAM-01 16 'Monomodulator *'

Same as above, but the wavesequence is mono-only when playing
        chords, which dramatically increases polyphony.

RAM-01 17 'Oh Joy! *'

Death by resonance: the joystick modulates both resonance and
the parametric eq mid section, and the mod wheel closes the
        filter. Wiggle away!

RAM-01 18 'Bellepiano *'

Another electic piano. Boring yes, but I like playing these,
they sound so Christmassy! (well, they do the way I play
        them... :)

RAM-01 19 'Vel.stringlyr *'

Strings, with a long release pad at lower velocities, and
shorter one at upper-mid velocities, and a bowed attack at
        high velocities.

RAM-01 20 'Formant Pad *'

Another pad. The sustain pedal only affects one part, so when
you hold a pad with the pedal it drifts over to the left side,
which can work quite nicely in a track giving some breathing
        space.

RAM-01 21 'Cool Winter *'

Version of "Cold Winter" that doesn't use crossfading wave
sequences, so you lose the moving wave effect but gain wads
        more polyphony.

Hope you can find a use for 'em. Enjoy!
