Some Korg Wavestation Performances - My first edits
        ===================================================

(05/09/95)

BENS_WS3.LIB is a SoundSurfer/Diver format library containing some of
my first attempts at programming the Wavestation. There are 32
performances in this bank, and all should work on any WS (ie the WS,
EX, A/D and SR). However, a couple of the performances need the
Synth/Timeslice PCM card in the PCM slot, but I left these
performances in because I liked them. Alternate waves are suggested in
these cases.

The sysex version of this bank is called BENS_WS3.SYX. This bank
contains all the sounds in the previously distributed BENS_WS2.LIB/SYX
plus a couple more. It keeps expanding as I get more time to do some
WS programming.

They are addressed to RAM2, but of course can be put anywhere using
SoundDiver (or other WS editor).

Simply select 'Load...' in the memory manager to load the bank.

Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough
people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any
nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do!

RAM-02 00 'PropaBrassStab*'

Nice big brass stab. Turn the volume up!

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 01 'Paddy Twee *'

Smooth pad, works as a pad but it has a slightly harder attack
so it's a bit more playable. If a note is held down there is a
subtle timbre change which gives it a bit of movement.
Aftertouch controls the filter brightness, giving a really
mellow pad when the keyboard is leant on. Nice for
	fade-ins/outs.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 02 'J.Carpenter *'

Inspired by many John Carpenter horror film soundtracks (esp.
Halloween 3). Analogy lead - play slow, dark melodies.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 03 'Slow Strings *'

Edited from one of the string presets to give a smoother pad
with less attack and more release.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 04 'Saxy *'

Mono sax using all the sax waveforms of the WS. Not brilliant,
	but not bad...

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 05 'Triggered Pad *'

This is a very nice performance that uses the compressor/gate
as a trigger, so it simulates the effect you get when 'keying'
a gate. The lowest keyboard octave controls the trigger, which
the rest of the keyboard playing a long, evolving choral pad.
Play chords and rythmically trigger a bottom note for a really
ambient noise. The key to this performance is the effects
settings. Of course, any patch you like can be the main sound
element, so if you like the trigger effect you can easily
substitute your own patches to work with it.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 06 'Veloc-ores *'

Piano-ey type envelope with velocity routed to the wave table,
so that soft playing gives mellow waves, and harder playing
gives brighter, almost harpsichord like, sounds.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 07 'Phased Strings*'

This is a stringy pad background like the one behind the
'Vulcan Pad' preset. I love that WS phaser effect...

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 08 'Orbiter 2 *'

Another fave of mine, this one's great for ambient stuff. Play
at about 100 bpm in eighths to get syncopated sounds in time
with the delay. The phaser effect add movement, and you can
further add movement by twiddling the joystick, which cycle
between the 4 waves (actually, only three are used here - 'B'
is silent but you can easily modify this to give another
timbre). 'D' is controlled in level by the mod wheel, in order
to get a smoother fade. 'C' is a percussivey noise, with 'A'
and 'D' being more traditional sounds. Because of the amp
envelope, this can be used for leads, arpeggios or pads, and
so is truly multi-purpose. If you want the delays to sync in
at different tempos, you'll have to edit these to suit. (I
have done edited tempo versions, but you can't have 'em. Do
	some editing yourself! :)

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 09 'Propaganda Pad*'

Another largish pad, that is along similar lines to
	Propaganda's early darker stuff.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 10 'Hevell *'

	Just a crap noise, really.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 11 'Space Oboes *'

Hollowish, spacey lead sound with TONS of effect...

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 12 'Gilmore *'

Run Like Hell-ish Dave Gilmore muted guitar wave sequence -
not hugely useful in itself, but you might like to try and
edit the wave sequences into something more specialised.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 13 'Cyclic (mod) *'

Again, not really useful in itself, but a good point to start
editing wave sequences. Mod wheel controls the level on this
	one.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 14 'E.R. *'

Played on the upper 3rd of the keyboard it gives a nice
arrpeggiod texture, especially when the wave sequence is
sync-ed to MIDI. Called 'E.R.' 'cos it reminded me of a sort
	of medical TV soundtrack.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 15 'Dancey *'

This is a nice modern sound, a bit resonant, but nice and
	thick.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 16 'Sequency *'

A resonant blippy wave sequence, in the bottom few octaves.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 17 'Blippy *'

	A real techno sensation! :)
Disorted resonant wave sequence, with the resonant frequency
controlled by the mod wheel. Turn the volume up!

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 18 'Let's See *'

Erm, a sort of thin lead/pad sound with a wierd sync'ed
	frequency content.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 19 'Ilustrious Vel*'

Velocity modulated waves, with echo. Nice playing staccato 8th
note chords in time with the echo, for a really full sound.
Bottom end is a bit squelchy, higher up it becomes a little
        more glassy.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 20 'Blue Room One *'

If you know the Orb track, 'Blue Room', you'll get a good idea
of what to expect. Atmospheric and echoey.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 21 'Razorback *'

Distorted techo bass/lead. Mod wheel changes distortion, and
the joystick-y controls the effects (echo) mix level. The
velocity affects the sound in a weird, inverse way, which
produces almost random results. Joystick-x controls the mix
        between the two waves.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 22 'Pluck Synth *'

Nice thick synth-chord pad. Very useable. Slightly phased,
clicky attack. Needs Synth/TimeSlice PCM card. (If you don't
have this, try substituting ROM-waves 60 or 61 for waves A and
C, which gives a similar, if not as nice, result).

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 23 'Ma'Sad-Kiam *'

Nice delicate sound. Marimba attack (which can be changed
through a variety of waves using the mod wheel), which an
ehoey dreamy pad underneath. Sustain a note, and the
underneath bit gets louder and brighter. Needs Synth/TimeSlice
PCM card. (If you don't have this, try substituting ROM-wave
80 for CARD-53 in the 'RevEkPad' patch.)

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 24 'Kaa-cloey *'

Ambient sound, useable across the keyboard, with spangly wave
        sequence burbles.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 25 'Sweet Spot *'

Fierce! Distorted sync'ed flanged grunge lead...

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 26 'Ambient Oboe *'

Synth oboe with lots of ambient reverb. Aftertouch/wheel
brings in a nice gentle vibrato.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 27 'T.C.L. Chamber*'

Another one of my faves. The lower half of the keyboard plays a
rhythmic wave sequence. Joystick-y controls effects mix (early
reflections), and joystick-x controls the mix between the two
parts of the wave sequence. The top half of the keyboard plays
a different wave sequence, with aftertouch controlling the
filter. Sync to MIDI and techno yourself right up!

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 28 'Wowsers Bass *'

Another real techo bass. Velocity controls the amount of
       distorted 'growl'.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 29 'Pluck Pad Bass*'

Really meaty bass (check out the bottom end!) that can also be
nicely used as a synth-pad. You might want to back off the
reverb amount. Needs Synth/TimeSlice PCM card. (If you don't
have this, try substituting ROM-waves 60 and 100 in the wave
sequence. It doesn't sound nearly as good, though.)

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 30 'Circular *'

Glassy wave sequence that spirals downwards. Makes lots of
       noise. Lots of echo.

______________________________________________________________________
RAM-02 31 'Ben's Bass *'

Another bass sound. What more can I say! :) Needs
Synth/TimeSlice PCM card. (See RAM-02 22 Pluck Synth comments).

If you are wondering what the asterisks are for, it's what I
use to distinguish my patches from every one else's.

Unashamed plug: EMAGIC's SoundDiver is by far the best generic sysex
management software available (IMHO). Check out the EMAGIC stuff on
the net: http://www.mcc.ac.uk/~emagic/emagic_page.html
          ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/emagic

Unashamed plug #2: If you are an Atari ST/TT/Falcon user of more
modest means and need a sysex dumper program, get my own Dump It!
program. It's free, and is rather nice (ahem).

At the time of writing, Dump-It! has the following
  features:

   - Loads/saves/receives/sends sysex data
   - Multitasking Compatible
   - Windowed/Flydial interface
   - Works in any screen resolution (ST-Low is not recommended! :)
   - Works as a program or accessory
   - ST-Guide manual and online help
   - Supports VA-START for dragging files to Dump-It!'s icon
   - Can receive single dumps of up to 256K
   - Holds as many dumps in the buffer as memory will allow.
   - Can define up to 16 requests in the program, and you can
freely load/save groups of these requests to build up a
     request library
   - Byte delay for older devices that don't like fast sysex
     transmission
   - Loads any type of file and attempts to find sysex in it
   - Imports Midifiles (sysex events only)
   - Exports raw sysex, midifile and Satellite formats

   - Shareware
   - Still in development, so hopefully much more to come...
