	    Some More of my Korg Wavestation Performances

BENS_WS4.SYX is a raw sysex format file containing some more attempts 
at programming the Wavestation. There are 26 performances in this 
library, and all should work on any WS (ie the WS, EX, A/D and SR). 
However, a couple of the performances need the Synth/Timeslice PCM 
card in the slot, but I left these performances in because I liked 
them.

The  SoundDiver library version of this bank is called BENS_WS4.LIB, 
and the midifile format version is BENS_WS4.MID. 

They are addressed to RAM2, and should be transmitted to a WS on Midi 
channel 1.

Hopefully I will put on the net most of the patches I make (not enough 
people do this, for mostly understandable reasons). If anyone has any 
nice WS patches they want to bung in my direction, please do!

RAM-02 00 'T-arc 27      *'

	In the top half of the keyboard, a nice pad plays, with lots 
	of reverb. In the bottom half of the keyboard, a mono rhythmic 
	wavesequence plays (you can isolate the sequence elements 
	using the joystick).

	There is a really long, slow phaser at work, which sounds best 
	with sustained chords. The string pad thing has a rather 
	strange attack - playing staccato arpeggios brings out a nice 
	reverbed shimmer in the upper keyboard range.
                
	In addition, aftertouch or the mod wheel brings a third 
	sequence element, a high arpeggio.
                
	You can sync this to MIDI clock and jam along!
                
	You may want to change the arpeg sequence to something a bit 
	more in key with what you are playing.


RAM-02 01 'Digilog       *'

	This is a sort of hollowish sound that can be used either as a 
	lead or a bass. Reverb is kept to a minimum.

RAM-02 02 'Moroder       *'

	This performance is inspired by the sort of chugging rythmic 
	arpeggios characteristic of Giorgio Moroder's early stuff. It 
	is quite analog in feel.
	
	The mod wheel opens up the filter and also gives a slightly 
	longer release time,. The joystick X-axis changes the timbre.
	
	This one is nice for arpeggios, and chordal rythmic stuff - 
	play off the echoes.

RAM-02 03 'Moroder 2     *'

	This is a modified version of the above that has a 
	distortion-filter effect, with the resonance being controlled 
	by the joystick Y-axis, and the filter on the mod wheel as 
	before.

RAM-02 04 'Susan         *'

	So called because it reminds me of the pseudo-random tinklings 
	in the film 'Desperately Seeking Susan' (of which I really 
	like some of the incidental music. The velocity changes the 
	wave being played - it's nice for 16ths in a sequencer.
	
	This also sounds quit good if you substitute the reverb for a 
	delay and play in time with the echoes - a ping-pong delay 
	around 400ms usually does the trick for me.

RAM-02 05 'Garbled       *'

	This is similar to the previous patch in that velocity shifts 
	the wave being played, and there is an echo which fills out 
	the sound. If you play staccato notes the wave sequence 
	mistriggers and produces a burst of waves, hence the 'Garbled' 
	name. Try it and see!

RAM-02 06 'Echo Synth    *'

	Another patch that is useable rather than staggering, it's 
	another analog-ish echo thing that is equally at home doing 
	chordal or arpeggio work.

RAM-02 07 'Alien Nation  *'

	This is rooted purely into 'FX' territory - it's basically a 
	very 'martian' sounding atmosphere.

RAM-02 08 'Rich Tea Synth*'

	"Rich Tea" as in plain. Another simple lead sound. THe 
	joystick X-axis changes the tone. 

RAM-02 09 '32note PolyPad*'

	This is a nice long pad, using only 1 oscillator per voice. 
	The mod wheel controls the phaser position - either play in 
	some mod wheel changes into a sequencer for timbral change, or 
	substitute a 0.03Hz value in the lfo to have the phaser sweep 
	while playing.
	
	Another thing to try - with the mod wheel controlling the 
	phaser (as is), try programming some random controller 7 
	changes (on 16th or 8th notes) into a sequencer. This gives 
	the sound a really nice random phase change - it's not 
	possible to do this directly on the WS because the LFO is not 
	routable to the phaser (shame).

RAM-02 10 'Techy 2       *'

	This and the next patch are variations on the same sequence, a 
	16th-note midi-syncable sequence with 'other bits'. More 
	useful as background activity, I guess.	A phaser modernises 
	the sound a bit, and gives it some motion.

RAM-02 11 'Techy 4       *'

	Now it has grown a disortion effect - the mod wheel changes 
	the resonance for some real-time twiddling.

RAM-02 12 'Digilog 2     *'

	Another plain lead, with aftertouch controlling the filter 
	cut-off, and the joystick X-axis controlling the tone.

RAM-02 13 'UninspiredLead*'

	Yet another plain lead, which sounds good if drowned in reverb 
	a bit more than it is found here. Velocity adjust the attack 
	time (ie the attack time gets faster the harder you play).

RAM-02 14 'Wumph!        *'

	This is a sort of stabby synth/brass patch, but with a filter 
	close on sustain, and it reopens to give an after echo thing 
	when you release a key. It's different I suppose!

RAM-02 15 'D-Lead 47     *'

	Yes, another lead (well, they're easy... :)
	This one has a slight pitch bend attack. The joystick controls 
	the panning, and the mod wheel controls the rotary speaker 
	effect.

RAM-02 16 'Reflects      *'

	Techno-ish lead with a gated reverb effect which modernises 
	it. Play short staccato lead lines. The joystick gives some 
	tonal variation.

RAM-02 17 'Repeat-a-Pad  *'

	I really like this one. With the joystick at positino 'C', you 
	get a nice smooth pad, with a long attack and release, and a 
	lovely slow phaser (yes, I love that phaser effect!).
	The mod wheel affects the filter. 
	Now slowly move the joystick over to the middle and beyond, 
	and a 16th-note choppy synth sound fades in. The filter on 
	this is more affected by thge mod wheel, and yes, sync it to 
	Midi clocks for the full effect.

RAM-02 18 'Reflex        *'

	This uses the same patch as 'Reflects', but uses different 
	effects to give a somewhat different sound. The joystick again 
	fades between four separate waves to introduce some tonal 
	variation.

RAM-02 19 'Vintage Year  *'

	In the bottom octave we have a dryish bass, perhaps a bit 
	Kraftwerk-ish, and on the rest of the keyboard plays an 
	analogish pad. the mod wheel controls the filter, and all the 
	way up the top pad leaves a kind of after-shimmer.
	Aftertouch brings in a very subtle pad, which you can just 
	about hear with the mod-wheel down. Subtlety is good...

RAM-02 20 'Lonous        *'

	A really nice lonely lead analog synth sound, drenched in 
	reverb, that reminds me of the leads I used to get with my 
	ageing Moog Prodigy and tons of reverb.
	
	Velocity controls the attack time, aftertouch the LFO, and the 
	mod wheel gives some subtle filter changes.

RAM-02 21 '5am           *'

	Favourite of this bunch without question. It requires a 
	Synth/Timeslice PCM card - sorry for those without, but I have 
	tried and it is just not possible to get the same warmth with 
	any of the internal WS waves.
	
	This is a very playable warm pad, with a bit of attack, extra 
	nice in the small hours of the morning, that just reeks 
	atmosphere. Holding down a note brings in a subtle timbre 
	change, that is quite attractive while playing, and helps the 
	sound with that 'certain something'. I am proud of this one - 
	it sounds pretty professional to my ears.

RAM-02 22 'Versus        *'

	This is yet another lead. With this one, aftertouch bends the 
	pitch up by a tone, similar to how guitar strings work, which 
	makes for some quite expressive solos with only one hand.

RAM-02 23 'Bens WS Kit 1 *'

	This was an experiment in being my first attempt at 
	programming some WS percussion. It's a multi-split 
	performance, with a couple of snares and bass drums, some 
	hi-hat-ey things, and a few other bits and pieces.

	It's quite wet, with a gated reverb effect, but you can take 
	out the effects and it still sounds Ok. All the drum sounds 
	are made out of regular WS waves - the drum sounds etc of 
	the EX are not used, so this works on any flavour WS.

RAM-02 24 'BJH Strings   *'

	Ok, how many string patches are there? Well, never mind, 
	here's another one. High velocity playing layers in a string 
	bowed attack, whereas normal playing just plays a regular slow 
	string pad (with loads of reverb). You may want to adjust the 
	velocity that the attack comes in, depending on your playing 
	and the keyboard response.

RAM-02 25 'Filter Pad    *'

	Another nice long pad, this one has a slow opening filter 
	until the sustain point, and when you release a key the filter 
	closes down again slowly. Good for slow and moddy chordal 
	stuff.
